École Polytechnique de Montréal

From legacy software to web-based platform

  • Porting the application from PowerHouse to web
  • Enhanced experience and IA based on interviews and workshops with users
  • Complete wireframe prototype
  • New modern graphic design

Our Mandate

The Ecole Polytechnique awarded r42 communications the mandate to accompany the technical development team in the migration of the school’s Student Management Application to a web-based platform.

Extensive Information Architecture Redesign

We were required to understand the user requirements, rethink the ergonomics of the application, the graphic design, establish new information architecture between screens and create a graphic interface that would support the user’s needs in working with the software on a daily basis.

Axure Wireframes

Following interviews, workshops and user observation with the existing software, functional analysis and review with the functional auditor, we developed Axure based wireframes to represent each of the screens of the new application. These wireframes became the central piece of the project, demonstrating the behaviour of each function and allowing user testing. The wireframes have also been helpful in the change management process and, most importantly, have guided the integration team for 2 years.

Style Toolbox

We have also provided the integration team a toolbox including the HTML/CSS/JS framework, with about fifty examples of pages, styles, interaction patterns, feedback, search results, forms, etc.
