Getting Started

The easiest way is directly from Power BI. Click "Get more visuals" in the visualization pane, find the visual you want, and select "Buy now" to complete the purchase.

You can also browse and purchase from the Microsoft AppSource Marketplace.

Once purchased, the license appears in your Microsoft 365 admin center where you can assign it to yourself or others in your organization.

Yes. When you add the visual in Power BI, select "Install free" to start a 30-day trial with full access to all features.

This gives you plenty of time to evaluate the visual before deciding to purchase.

Licenses are per-user subscriptions. Each license allows one person to use the premium features in both Power BI Desktop and the Power BI Service.

You can choose between monthly or annual billing when you purchase.

After purchasing, go to the Microsoft 365 admin center. Navigate to Billing → Your products, find your r42 subscription, and assign licenses to specific users.

Once assigned, users automatically get access to the premium features — no additional setup required on their end.

Free: Free to use forever with all features included.

Pro: Most features are free to use. Only specific "Pro" features require a license — these are listed in the visual's description.

Premium: Requires a license or a free trial to use.

Using the Visuals

Yes. The visuals render normally for anyone viewing the published report — viewers don't need a license.

You always need a license to edit the visual's settings.

Yes. The visuals render normally in Report Server — viewers don't need a license.

However, editing the visual's settings requires a connection to Microsoft's licensing service, which isn't available in on-premises environments.

Viewing works — your reports display normally without any overlay.

Editing requires a connection to Microsoft's licensing service to verify your license. When the service is unavailable, editing is disabled.

Your reports will continue to display data — nothing breaks. However, you won't be able to edit the visual's settings until you renew. The visual shows a small tooltip reminding you to renew your license.

We recommend setting up automatic renewal in the Microsoft 365 admin center to avoid any interruption.

Privacy & Security

This is also a requirement for Microsoft Certified visuals — they're not allowed to make external network requests.

Yes. All r42 visuals in AppSource are Microsoft Certified or in the process of getting certified. This means they've passed Microsoft's security review and work with features like export to PDF and PowerPoint.

Note: It can take up to 5 weeks from requesting certification until the certified icon appears in the Marketplace.
